Holistic healthcare

Not all medical specialities look holistically at all elements of a patient's presentation :

That was very funny. Where did you find it?

I think I worked with that orthopod once!

Yes it amused me but GrumpyRN I've also met surgeons of such a disposition!

Bippidee I'm afraid I can't find where I stumbled upon this. Like many bloggers, I stumble from blog to blog through links, and to links to other sites from blogs. It was when rummaging around this morning I chanced upon it somewhere on t'interweb but it's not somewhere I've links to or bookmarked, sorry :(

Stupid question as I am not too hot on technology, but is there a way for me to save this so I can email to to someone? I only know how to save pictures, not videos. Thanks

Hey Shrink, I have a bit of a question and wasn't sure where to put it so I have tagged it onto the end of this post (so please feel free to delete it).

In the past year and a half, whenever I am on clinical placements and I tell people that I am really interested in a career in psychiatry, a lot of people try to discourage me and say I shouldn't do it. They cite poor patient prognosis, emotional burnout and poor remuneration, and when they hear that my background is in medical imaging, they immediately tell me that I should definitely, beyond a reasonably doubt, become a radiologist. (I like to think this is because they think I'm smart and have the background, not because I have a massive personality deficit and should not be talking to patients. ;) )

Some of these are people who say they initially wanted to become psychiatrists, so they aren't entirely anti-psychiatry, but seem to have developed a dislike of the field.

Why do some doctors seem so keen to discourage others from going into psychiatry? And the other thing I was wondering is how do you deal with the potential burnout from the emotional load?

Thanks for your time. Like I said, please feel free to delete this. :)

Regards.
